Tips for Visiting Display Homes

Visiting a display home is a very important step in becoming a homeowner. Although there are other ways of visualising your future house such as photographs and 3D renderings, there is no substitute for walking through an actual home and getting a feel for everything. Visiting a display home serves many purposes including:

  • Providing design ideas

  • Providing an opportunity to assess the quality of the builder’s work

  • Giving you a feel of what the actual space inside the house is like

  • Offering you a chance to see whether particular upgrades will work etc.

To be able to do this you have to consider a few things when visiting display homes such as:

  1. What’s within your budget: A display home may have several thousand dollars in upgrades. This may take it outside your budget. It’s important to know what the house is like when it’s within your budget.

  2. Questions are important: Make no assumptions regarding standard features or extras. It’s important to know what the house actually comes with rather than getting surprised later on.

  3. The best time to visit is when no one else is there: Weekends may be more convenient but when there are many people visiting at the same time, the consultant will not be able to devote enough time to you and your questions.

  4. Document as much as possible: You may not have the time to visit a display house more than once. Take a camera with you along with pen and paper. Take photos and write down as much information as possible. Some people even bring a tape measure to accurately measure various spaces.

Home Builders Brisbane: Considerations When Assessing a Building Plan

Assessing a building plan is more challenging than many people realise. This is why many people prefer visiting display homes. You may start off thinking you’re getting what you want only to realise that a number of things don’t quite fit. When you assess a building plan, some of the things you should pay attention to include:

  • Lighting: How many windows are there in each room and how large are these windows? Additionally, what directions are these windows facing? Lighting is an important factor and you should ensure rooms with a lot of daytime activities are properly designed and oriented to enjoy the sunlight.

  • Traffic: There are rooms that shouldn’t be near areas of the house with a lot of traffic such as bedrooms and bathrooms. This means they should be some distance away from busy hallways, garages, kitchens etc.

  • Distance from entrance: When you come in with groceries, it can be an inconvenience to have to pass a room or hallway to get to the kitchen. Due to the amount of traffic witnessed in kitchens, it’s a good idea for them to be near an entrance.

  • Wasted Space: A game room or gym seems nice but if these rooms won’t be put to good use, you may end up repurposing them later. Every space should have a purpose.

Home builders Brisbane companies such as Paradigm Homes assist many homeowners to assess these needs in their home before construction.
